TOP 10 HORROR MOVIES FROM THE 1980s

This is a personal list of my top 10 favourite horror movies from the 1980s

10) Rawhead Rex 

Year: 1986
Director: George Pavlou
Staring: David Dukes, Kelly Piper, Niall Toibin

A small town in Ireland will be changed forever, after Rawhead Rex, a particularly nasty demon, is released from his underground prison by an unwitting farmer. The film follows Rex, as he causes a massacre and mass panic across the country side, while a man with nothing left to lose struggles to stop it.




9) Hellraiser 

Year: 1987
Directer: Clive Barker
Staring: Andrew Robinson, Clare Higgins, Ashley Laurence

Clive Barker's directing debut graphically tells the story of Larry and his wife Julia who move into an old house,  the man's half-brother Frank, who is also Julia's former lover hiding upstairs. Having opened a mysterious box, he unleashed the demons within it and lost his earthly body to the Cenobite's, he is brought back into existence by a drop of blood on the floor, after Larry cuts his hand on a rusty nail. He soon forces his former mistress Julia to bring him his necessary human sacrifices to complete his body, but Larrys daughter Kirsty finds out and trys to stop them by opening the box and unleashing the Cenobits once again. 


 Halloween 2

Year: 1981
Director: Rick Rosenthal
Starring: Jamie Lee Curtis, Donald Pleasence, Charles Cyphers

The Story picks up were Halloween finished, on the same night as the original Halloween. Michael Myers is around the neighborhood, after being shot by Dr.Loomis six times. Now, he's in a hospital where the girl Laurie Strode was taken. And he wont stop untill he has killed her...


7) Prince Of Darkness

Year: 1987
Directer: John Carpenter
Starring: Donald Pleasence, Lisa Blount, Jameson Parker

A sinister secret has been kept in the basement of an abandoned Los Angeles church for many years. With the death of a priest belonging to a mysterious cult, another priest opens the door to the basement and discovers a vat containing a green liquid. The priest contacts a group of physics graduate students to investigate it. Unfortunately, they discover that the liquid contains the essence of Satan himself! The liquid later comes to life, turning anyone who touchs it into Zombies, in a bid to open the gates of hell....




6) Aliens

Year: 1986

Starring: Sigourney Weaver, Bill Paxton, Michael Biehn, Carrie Henn

Fifty years after Ellen Ripley survived her frightening ordeal, her escape vessel is recovered after drifting across the galaxy as she slept in cryogenic stasis. Back on earth, nobody believed her story about the "Aliens" on the planet LV-426. however, when all communication with the colony is lost. The Company enlists Ripley to aid a team of Colonial marines on a rescue mission on the planet to find out if Ripley was telling the truth about the aliens and rescue any survivors. As the mission goes horribly wrong, Ripley is forced to come to grips with her worst nightmare, and soon realises that her nightmares have only just began....


5) The Fog

The 100th anniversary of the small sea town, Antonio Bay, is approaching. While the townsfolk prepare to celebrate, the victims of the crime that founded the town rise from the sea to get revenge on the desendants of those who mudered them, Under cover of the fog, they carry out their vicious attacks, searching for what is rightly theirs.




4) A Nightmare On Elm Street

Starring: Johnny Depp, Robert Englund, Heather Langenkamp

Nancy Thompson and her friends, Tina Gray, Rod Lane and Glen Lantz are being tormented by a clawed killer in their dreams named Freddy Krueger. Nancy must try to stay awake, as Freddy begins to kill off all her friends one by one in their dreams.
Nancy and her boyfriend try to think of a way to stop Freddy before its their turn to be killed. 




3) Phantasm 2

Year: 1988

Starring: James LeGros, Reggie Bannister, Angus Scrimm

Mike and Reggie are back and ready to kill The Tall Man, after Mike is released from a hospital Reggie takes him back to his home to stay with his family, but The Tall Man has other ideas for the 2 friends. 
A beautiful young girl starts to appear in Mike's dreams and they form a connection. He can feel that she's in danger and needs their help - will they find her before the Tall Man can get to her too?

2) The Thing

Year: 1982
Directer: John Carpenter
Starring: Kurt Russell, Wilford Brimley, Keith David

An American scientific expedition to the Antarctic is interrupted by a 2 Norwegians in a helicopter pursuing and shooting at a dog. The helicopter blows up and the only surviving Norwegian runs around the american camp shotting his rifle, untill he is shot dead by a member of the american scientific team.
During the night, the dog mutates in a horrible looking thing and attacks other dogs in the cage and members of the team that investigate. The team soon realises that an alien life-form with the ability to duplicate any living organism is on the loose and they don't know who is them selfs or who is THE THING.... 

1) The Evil Dead
Year: 1981

Starring, Bruce Campbell, Ellen Sandweiss, Richard DeManincor, Betsy Baker, Theresa Tilly

Five friends go up to a cabin in the woods for a break, where they find a tome called the Necronomicon Ex-Mortis and the taped translation of the text, once the tape is played, it unleashes an unspeakable evil within the forest. One by one, the teens are possessed. With only one remaining, Ashley J. Williams, it is up to him to survive the night and battle the evil dead.
