Year: 2000
Staring: Jennifer Morrison, Matthew Davis, Hart Bochner, Loretta Devine
Director: John Ottman
Running Time: 97 minutes
Plot:
The making of a College horror movie takes on a terrifying reality for students at the most prestigious film school in the country, the sequel up to the smash hit 'Urban Legend'. At Alpine University, someone is determined to win the best film award at any cost even if it means killing off the competition. No one is safe and everyone is a suspect.
Review:
The movie tried to be different from the first Urban Legend movie, the killer had a completely new look, and it was set in a completely different town however the school 'Rent A Cop' Reese Wilson (Loretta Devine) makes a return to this sequel playing the Campus Security once again.
The first 20 minutes of the movie started off strong and had promise but then all of a sudden it lost steam and went down hill from there.
The Characters in this movie were not as good as the characters in the original movie, no one stood out and no one had much likeabillity the main character Amy Mayfield (Jennifer Morrison) didnt really do alot in this movie she had no screen presence so i felt quite bored every time she was on screen which unfortunatly was most of the movie.
The story line had promise but again the characterisation just didnt work so the story didnt grip you as much as it could have, i didnt feel like it had anything to do with any Urban Legends, in the first movie the killer was killing people in forms of Urban Legends, in this movie the killer just killed people there wasnt really much mention or refrence to any Urban Legend other than the 1 that the studants were filming which took up all of about 3minutes of the movie.
The killer has a new look in this movie which really didnt work for me, it didnt in any way shape or form look freaky or scary so it didnt work for the movie, the death scenes were pretty boring and quick, i cant really remember enjoying any of the death scenes at all, the only thing about the deaths i enjoyed was the fact that the characters were exiting the movie because by the half way mark i was litteraly wishing it would just turn its self off.
Dont get me wrong its by far not the worst slasher movie i have ever seen, it just wasnt anything special, the gore was very limited and the budget of $15,000,000 seemed very much wasted, id say the only thing i enjoyed about this movie was the first 15-20minutes and the fact that the killer was not the predictable person.
I am a big beliver that a good music score makes the movie stand out above all others and once again the music score for this movie didnt deliver anything to the movie infact id go as far as to say it almost made watching the movie impossable without losing the will to live.
Scores:
Story telling and characterisation 3/10
Death scenes and gore 3/10
Overall enjoyment 3/10
It had potential to be so much better but failed to deliver anything new or even interesting.
